Ben Manski is a scholar, lawyer and pro-democracy advocate. He is the president of the Liberty Tree Foundation, a strategy center he founded in 2004, as well as a cofounder of the Move to Amend coalition, and an Associate Fellow with the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington DC. Manski was one of the leaders of the Wisconsin uprising of 2011, cofounding the Wisconsin Wave movement, which continues today.
Politically engaged since his childhoods in Israel and Wisconsin, now in his late 30s, Ben Manski has worked for a variety of causes, including service as campaign manager of Jill Stein for President, co-chair of the Green Party of the United States, national director of the Campus Greens USA, and as Midwest Director for the Nader 2000 campaign. Manski was a primary figure in the student movements of the 1990s, serving then as national coordinator of the Democracy Teach-Ins and the group 180/MDE in the lead-up to the Seattle WTO protests. At that time, Manski was also prominently involved in other social change movements, including Earth First!, and worked in the employ of various labor, environmental, and pro-democracy organizations.
Since the early 1990s, Manski has been a featured speaker on over one hundred college campuses and at hundreds of events on five continents, and has appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Washington Times, Chicago Tribune, The Nation, The Progressive, Mother Jones, The Call, In These Times, as well as on National Public Radio, Air America, Pacifica, CNN, ABC News, Fox News, Al Jazeera, among many media channels. Ben Manski has published widely, including chapters in five books as well as scores of magazine, journal, and newspaper articles. In addition to Manski’s ongoing pro-democracy work at Liberty Tree, Manski serves on the sociology faculty of Madison College, and together with his wife, manages PosiPair.com, an online green marketplace that promotes supply chain transparency and accountability.
In September of 2013, Manski stepped down as White House Chief of Staff in the Green Shadow Cabinet and assumed the role of Senior Advisor to the President.
