STEIN: Obama betrays country by appointing big corporate donors to important offices

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

In the last week, President Obama announced three critical appointments tarnished by banking scandals, bailouts, lobbying and bundling.  Penny Pritzker, a billionaire heiress embroiled in banking failure and labor abuse, was named to head Commerce. Michael Froman, a managing director at Citigroup during its collapse and bailout, was appointed to take on the job of U.S. Trade Representative. And Tom Wheeler, venture capitalist and former communications-industry lobbyist, has been named to chair the Federal Communications Commission.

BOLGER, SWANSON: Stay out of Syria

Sunday, May 5, 2013

Statement of Leah Bolger, Secretary of Defense and David Swanson, Secretary of Peace, of the Foreign Affairs Branch of the Green Shadow Cabinet:

The Obama administration has seemingly painted itself into yet another military corner by announcing that use of chemical weapons by Syria would constitute a red line that would mandate military action on the part of the United States. Now we are hearing reports that the red line may have been crossed, and some prominent officials are calling for the U.S. to step up its aid to the rebels and/or impose a no-fly zone. Proponents of military action such as Secretary of State John Kerry and hawkish Senator John McCain seem to think that the U.S. can sort out the “good guys” in the Syrian civil war, and use U.S. military assets to help the rebels take down the Assad government.

Thursday, May 2, 2013

I am honored to accept my appointment as the Public Intervenor for Human Rights as part of the Green Cabinet. I am honored because I believe that the establishment of the Green Cabinet is an innovative attempt to create an alternative popular structure that has the potential for not only galvanizing and reflecting the interests, politics, campaigns and programs of the supporters of the Green ticket from the last election but also the much wider network of organizations and individuals who are part of social justice work in the U.S.

FLOWERS: U.S. punishes India for placing public health before corporate profits

Thursday, May 2, 2013

Statement of Green Shadow Cabinet Secretary of Health, Dr. Margaret Flowers:

The U.S. Trade Report released yesterday continues to hold India in Priority Watch Status because India is not caving in to pressure from pharmaceutical corporations who want to sell high-priced patented medications in India. For the past decade, India has taken the lead in producing low-cost generic medications to meet important areas of need such as the treatment of infectious diseases. India also has a strict approval process for patented medications such that new pharmaceuticals must actually prove that they are more effective than current drugs before being approved.

STEIN & HONKALA: Announcing the Green Shadow Cabinet on Earth Day

Monday, April 22, 2013

Over the past decade it’s become increasingly clear that the foundations of civilization – even life as we know it – are nearing collapse. The political establishment that created this crisis is making it worse, fostering economic austerity and climate catastrophe while they squander trillions on wars, Wall Street bailouts and massive fossil fuel subsidies.
